Maximising Potential in Earley
We recently caught up with the owners of a beautiful semi-detached property in Earley to see how their new ground-floor wrap-around extension has settled into its surroundings.
Enhancing an Incredible Outlook
The defining feature of this home is undoubtedly its position. The rear garden cascades down towards a lush woodland, creating a horizon that feels like a private forest right in the back garden. While the view was always there, the family felt they didn’t have a layout or a patio that truly allowed them to enjoy it to its full potential.
Working with the respected team at Bastion Architectural Practice—long-term partners of Elivate—the goal was to create a seamless transition between the indoors and the landscape. We installed large, wide-aspect windows to frame the woodland views and constructed a new patio specifically designed to help the family optimise their time outdoors.
Versatile Living for the Whole Family
The wrap-around extension has introduced a new level of practicality to the home:
- The “Main” Entrance: Interestingly, the new side door has become so central to their daily routine that the family and their guests now rarely use the original front door.
- Modern Work-Life Balance: The extension provides a dedicated entertainment space where the dining table doubles as a bright, airy office for the owners, both of whom work from home.
- Essential Amenities: The additional space also houses a new utility room (currently home to a small hamster!) and a convenient ground-floor shower and toilet.
A Supportive Partnership
At Elivate, we understand that a major building project is a significant undertaking. For many homeowners—especially those who have had difficult experiences with builders in the past—the process can feel naturally high-pressured.
This project came with its own set of unique challenges, including site complexities that required additional time and care. During the build, the family also decided to enhance their home security. We worked closely with them to integrate a new camera system, ensuring they felt completely secure and at ease in their evolving space. Our role was to provide a steady, professional hand, guiding the family through the “messy middle” of the construction to reach the finish line.
The Final Word
As we sat together in the new living room, with the sun streaming across the patio, the couple reflected on the transformation. While they candidly shared that they found the process of a large-scale build a big emotional investment, they are delighted with the result.
Having previously dealt with a “nightmare” building experience years ago, they were looking for a team they could rely on. We are proud to say that despite the natural stresses of such a transformation, they would wholeheartedly recommend Elivate for any future project.
